We stayed at a Bed and Breakfast this past weekend. It was such a great change of pace. We were able to talk to the owner and her family. They were so helpful to us in making sure that we were well taken care of. They even tried to arrange for us to climb the mountain but the price was still expensive. We are planning on going back to fellowship with them more.
On Saturday we took a boat to the island and taught. We took one of our local friends with us. Most of the locals are scared to travel to this island so it was good to see that she had a great time hanging out with the kids. I could tell that kids really enjoyed having someone else come and teach them. She was able to communicate with the kids much better because she speaks their language. She is such a great teacher. We keep trying to encourage her to continue down that path.
On Monday we taught from 7:30-10:30. We asked several of the kids if they would take us to their homes so we could see where they lived. Little did we know that they basically lived in one room shacks. They first had to take us on an almost mile walk to their homes. We had to cross a bridge that was made from two 2 x 4. The kids kept holding their breath each time it was our turn to cross. They kept teasing us that the bridge was going to collapse. The families really enjoyed meeting us. They all wanted their pictures taken with us. They are just amazed that 3 white girls from the states cared enough to spend times with the kids and come see where they lived. They kept showing off their precious babies and making sure we all got a chance to told them. They may have nothing but they sure do find joy in the little things of life. How we all can learn something from them!
Tuesday we were suppose to teach but it was canceled and rescheduled for another day. We slept in and then decided to head into the city. We each got a foot scrub and a pedicure. For it was a huge step because I absolutely hate having people touch my feet. We then headed to the beach thinking the tide would be going out and we then could take pictures of us standing the middle of the South China Sea. The tide didn't go out but we did do some PW as we walked back to the apt during cousin prayer time.
Please continue to pray for us each day. We definitely can feel them. We keep talking about how the time has flown by. Nobody can believe that we have been here about a month and that we will be home in a month. It is so hard to believe.
Love ya'll
Steph
